خطاب بعد أحداث اللاذقية: "لن نسمح بزعزعة أمن البلاد"

The Syrian Minister of Interior, Anas Khattab, issued a final warning on Wednesday to the remaining members of the former regime, stressing that the ministry will deal firmly with any attempts to undermine stability.

Khattab stated: “We warn the remnants of the former regime against insisting on spreading chaos, killing, and sabotage,” adding: “There will be no weakness or leniency towards anyone who wants to tamper with the security of the country.”

The Syrian Minister of Interior also stressed that “the state is the sole guarantor for everyone in preserving their security and guaranteeing their rights,” and considered that the role of the security services is to “protect citizens, not intimidate them,” and pointed to working to show “a new image of security and its concept.”

In a related context, state television reported that the Syrian authorities arrested 21 people linked to the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad in the Latakia Governorate, west of the country, on Tuesday, after implementing a night curfew in the city of Latakia, following acts of violence in the Alawite-majority region.

The Ministry of Interior had announced, in a statement, a curfew in the city of Latakia starting from 5:00 PM on Tuesday until 6:00 AM on Wednesday.

Areas in Latakia witnessed attacks and looting after the killing of three people in demonstrations, before security was restored in the city after the deployment of security forces.
