انقسام في اللقاء: جابر يوضح موقف وزارة المالية من "اللبنانية"

Minister of Finance, Yassine Jaber, affirmed the importance of supporting and strengthening the Lebanese University, and ensuring its survival as a comprehensive national institution. He explained that its role is not limited to graduating qualified individuals and providing equal opportunities in higher education for all segments of society, but also represents a forum for dialogue and openness for the young generation, which enhances awareness of common values and supports constructive positive interaction, away from the influence of conflicting opinions and policies.

Jaber’s statements came during his reception of the President of the Lebanese University, Professor Bassam Badran, accompanied by the President of the Association of Full-Time Professors, Dr. Yahya Al-Rabi’, and the Chairman of the Professors’ Delegates Council, Dr. Daniel Al-Qutrib. He stressed that one of the most important priorities of the Ministry of Finance is to provide the necessary resources to maintain the scientific level of the university, and to ensure a decent life for faculty members and administrators, to enable it to continue its leading academic and social role in Lebanon.

During the meeting, a complete presentation was given on the university’s conditions, needs, and ways to provide the necessary requirements for it.

Following the meeting, Badran expressed his thanks to Minister Jaber for his attention to the university’s conditions and the demands of its professors, and explained that the meeting was divided into two parts: the first was attended by Al-Rabi’ and Al-Qutrib, and focused on the issue of the two additional salaries and assistance to the Solidarity Fund, where Minister Jaber promised to study the files and work to find appropriate solutions. The second part was bilateral, and dealt with various financial aspects related to the university’s affairs, describing the meeting as “positive and fruitful.”

In a separate context, Minister Jaber received the Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon, Gregory Galigan, where they discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them. It was an opportunity during which Minister Jaber briefed Ambassador Galigan on the reform steps taken by the government, especially those undertaken by the Ministry of Finance.
