Minister of Administrative Development, Fadi Makki, announced the Lebanese government’s firm commitment to implementing the plan to confine weapons to the state. He revealed the start of preparations to implement this plan in the area north of the Litani River.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Makki clarified that the process of confining weapons in northern Litani will begin according to a specific and clear mechanism. He indicated that the speed of implementation will depend primarily on Israel’s commitment to withdrawing from the occupied territories and stopping the ongoing attacks.
The Minister of Administrative Development also mentioned that the Lebanese state has already completed the process of confining weapons in the southern Litani area, within the framework of its commitments to the security roadmap approved by the government, and in cooperation with the relevant parties.
These statements come in light of the government’s diligent efforts to implement the plan to confine weapons, which has gained special importance after the recent Israeli military escalation, and the accompanying repeated attacks on the south, despite the declaration of a ceasefire through international and regional mediation.
The government has repeatedly affirmed that stabilizing the truce and Israel’s withdrawal from the areas it occupied during the recent clashes are essential conditions for completing security measures, including expanding the scope of confining weapons north of the Litani, in line with international resolutions and preserving internal stability.
