إضراب مرتقب لمتعاقدي الجامعة اللبنانية احتجاجاً على عدم التفرغ والمستحقات

The committee of contract professors at the Lebanese University issued a statement, stating that contract professors are welcoming Christmas without a decision on the tenure file and without receiving their financial dues.

The committee expressed its deep concern regarding the continued procrastination in approving the tenure file, considering it a well-deserved right that has been long awaited for professors who have spent years serving the university and its students, especially in these difficult circumstances.

It clarified that the continuation of this postponement represents an imminent danger to the Lebanese University and the rights of its students, and raises doubts about the seriousness of officials in preserving the rights of professors and addressing the accumulated problems of the university.

Based on previous warnings, and based on the results of the referendum of contract colleagues, the committee announced a comprehensive strike for contract professors starting on January 8, 2026, which includes stopping all academic activities, especially refraining from teaching, submitting and correcting exams, invigilating during exams, conducting academic arbitrations, and participating in laboratory work, in addition to all other academic and administrative tasks undertaken by contract professors.

The committee confirmed that this legal move does not aim to disrupt the work of the institution, but rather to correct the existing imbalance and stop the systematic destruction of the national university.

It pointed out that this stage is considered crucial and decisive for the university and the rights of professors, calling on all colleagues to fully adhere to the strike and continue to press for the achievement of fair demands, and stressing that the rights of contract professors are non-negotiable, and that solidarity and unity among them constitute the basic guarantee for protecting these rights and preserving the Lebanese University.

The committee also appealed to students and civil society to stand united with the contract professors and support them in defending their legitimate rights, in order to preserve the quality of education and the stability of the Lebanese University.
