A news report issued in Spain today, Tuesday, revealed the latest developments regarding the future of Polish player “Robert Lewandowski,” the star of Barcelona, during the upcoming summer transfer period.
“Lewandowski’s” contract with the Catalan club expires at the end of the current season, and Barcelona’s position on the player’s future remains unclear so far.
Barcelona extended “Lewandowski’s” contract last season for an additional season, after the distinguished performance he presented under the leadership of “Hansi Flick.”
However, the current season witnessed a significant decline in “Lewandowski’s” level, while “Ferran Torres” shone remarkably, which affected the Polish star’s role within the team.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” mentioned that “Flick” will hold a meeting with “Lewandowski” next January to discuss his plans for the new season.
“Flick” has a strong relationship with “Lewandowski” since they worked together in the ranks of Bayern Munich.
The newspaper explained that “Flick” is the one who will determine the player’s future with Barcelona, meaning that if he sees that the Polish striker is still able to add to the team, his contract will be renewed.
The newspaper pointed out that in the event that “Lewandowski’s” contract is renewed, it will be under conditions, the most important of which are reducing his role on the field and reducing his salary.
The newspaper hinted that “Lewandowski” may agree to these conditions due to his stability in the city of Catalonia.
“Lewandowski” scored 8 goals and made two goals in 18 matches he played with Barcelona this season, but he started in only 10 matches out of 25 matches the team played in all competitions, while he missed 4 matches due to injury.
Press reports had stated that “Lewandowski” is considered a target for Milan next season, after the end of his contract with Barcelona.
