الزراعة": تأكيدات حول الحمى القلاعية وخطة للحد من تفشيها

The Ministry of Agriculture announced in a statement, based on a statement by Information Minister “Paul Murqos” after the cabinet meeting, that foot-and-mouth disease is not transmitted to humans in any way, whether through direct contact or consumption of meat or consumption of milk and its products.

The Ministry advised citizens to continue consuming meat and dairy products as usual, confirming that they are completely safe and do not pose any threat to human health.

It explained that foot-and-mouth disease affects livestock and cattle and spreads among them very quickly, noting that the Ministry is working to implement five practical steps to combat this disease, which are:

Controlling the disease and implementing strict measures to prevent the transfer of livestock between regions or farms, in cooperation with municipalities, the Ministry of Interior, and all relevant authorities.

Providing vaccines for the new strain as quickly as possible, with batches starting to arrive in Lebanon next week and continuing sequentially until the middle of next month.

Suspending the import of live cattle from countries where the “SAT1” strain has been recorded, as a preventive measure to limit the spread of the disease.

Urging the security forces to intensify control over the borders and prevent smuggling operations from Syria, which are believed to be one of the reasons for the emergence of the disease in Lebanon.

Activating control over milk and meat prices, and implementing strict measures against factories that cheat in the production of dairy products.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Agriculture extended a salute of reverence and appreciation to all livestock breeders and farmers, who constitute the mainstay of food security, and continue their work despite all the difficulties.
