استفتاء على مصير الأراضي الأوكرانية... زيلينسكي: "الشعب يقرر"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that any potential agreement on disputed territories must be approved by the people through a public vote, amid increasing diplomatic efforts led by the United States to end the ongoing war with Russia for nearly four years.

In a press statement to a group of media professionals, Zelenskyy said: “I believe that the people of Ukraine are the ones who will answer this question. Whether through elections or a referendum, the decision must come from the people.”

He clarified that the issue of control over the Donetsk region in the east of the country, in addition to the status of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, remains the most prominent outstanding issue in talks aimed at ending the conflict with Russia. He added: “The territories of Donetsk and everything related to it, along with the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, are the two issues we continue to discuss with the American side.”

In a related context, Zelenskyy revealed that the United States is exerting pressure to establish a demilitarized “free economic zone” between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the east of the country, as part of the proposed plan to stop the war.
