بيان مشترك عقب مباحثات بين عون والسلطان العماني

Following the discussions held by the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq during an official two-day visit to the Sultanate of Oman, a joint Lebanese-Omani statement was issued. The statement clarified that this visit comes within the framework of “the historical brotherly relations that bind the two countries and the keenness of their leaderships to enhance cooperation and embody the values of brotherhood and Arab solidarity.”

During an official session of talks between President Aoun and Sultan Haitham, the solid bilateral relations were reviewed, and the two sides affirmed “their determination to expand the horizons of cooperation and coordination in various political, economic, investment, banking, and tourism fields, in addition to transportation and logistics services, in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples.”

The two leaders also praised “the constructive role of the Lebanese community in Oman” and agreed on “early preparations for the convening of the first session of the Omani-Lebanese Joint Committee in Muscat, chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and working on signing new agreements and memoranda of understanding that enhance bilateral cooperation programs and support trade, cultural, and scientific exchange, while granting the private sector a greater role in joint development projects.”

Regarding regional issues, the two sides expressed “their deep concern about the continuation of Israeli attacks on Lebanese territories and the occupation of Arab lands in a clear violation of Resolution 1701 and international legitimacy resolutions.” The two sides called for “an immediate cessation of these attacks and a complete withdrawal from the occupied territories, while supporting international efforts aimed at preventing escalation, establishing stability, facilitating the return of displaced persons, and reconstruction.”

The Omani side reaffirmed “its full support for Lebanon in preserving its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and strengthening its official institutions, especially the army and legitimate security forces, in addition to supporting the economic, financial, and administrative reforms that the Lebanese government is working on.”

The two sides affirmed “the firm Arab position on the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and on the importance of Arab solidarity, respect for the sovereignty of states, the principles of good neighborliness, and international law.”

At the conclusion of the visit, President Joseph Aoun expressed “his deep thanks and gratitude to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and to the Omani government and people for their hospitality and warm reception, wishing the Sultanate continued prosperity and progress under its wise leadership.”
