In a speech delivered at a mass event held at the al-Sham Hotel in Damascus to celebrate the first anniversary of liberation, and broadcast by the Syrian Al-Ikhbariya channel, al-Shar’a stated: “If we now squander the achievements of the revolution, we will pay double the price we paid in 14 years,” noting that the Syrian people “incurred great sacrifices during the long course of the revolution.”
Al-Shar’a considered that the political change that the country witnessed last year represents the culmination of a long-standing journey, and said: “The victory achieved during eleven days constituted the last link in the Syrian scene.”
The Syrian president also pointed out that the past years have been full of difficulties for Syrians inside and outside Syria, stressing that “the displaced deserve to return to their homes with dignity,” and that “the next period will be devoted to reconstruction and consolidation of state institutions.”
Al-Shar’a stressed that the government is “continuing to complete political and administrative reforms,” in conjunction with “relaunching the wheel of the economy,” explaining that maintaining political stability is a prerequisite for starting the national recovery phase.
President al-Shar’a’s speech comes in light of the political developments that Syria has been witnessing since the fall of the former regime in December 2024, and the country’s entry into a new phase aimed at restoring stability and building new governing institutions after more than a decade of conflict.
In recent months, al-Shar’a has continued to attend public and political events, directing messages that emphasize the unity of Syrians and the importance of supporting the state in the coming stage.
