The Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool player, raised question marks about his future with the team, expressing his feeling that the club did not fulfill its promises to him.
Salah sat on the bench for the third game in a row, in the Liverpool and Leeds United match that ended in a draw (3-3).
In statements reported by “Sky Sports”, the former Roma player said: “I have given a lot to this club over the years, especially last season, and now I sit on the bench and I don’t know why.”
Salah added: “It seems that the club has abandoned me, that’s how I feel… I think it’s very clear that someone wanted me to take all the blame… I got a lot of promises in the summer, and so far I’m sitting on the bench in three games, so I can’t say they kept their promise.”
He continued: “I have said repeatedly that my relationship with the coach (Slot) is good, and suddenly our relationship was cut off, I don’t know why… But it seems to me, from my point of view, that there are those who don’t want me at the club.”
Speaking about the upcoming Brighton match at Anfield, which will be his last before joining the Egyptian national team in the African Cup of Nations, Salah said: “I told my family: Come to the Brighton match, I don’t know if I will participate or not, but I will enjoy it… In my heart, I will enjoy that match, because I don’t know what will happen next… I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans, and go to the African Cup… I don’t know what will happen when I’m there.”
In response to a question about whether this was his last game with Liverpool, he replied: “In football, no one knows what will happen… I don’t accept this situation, I have given a lot to this club.”
Regarding the draw with Leeds, he stated: “I don’t know what to say, it’s funny, but I didn’t believe it… It’s a really disappointing result for us as a team, because we expect to win a game like this… We scored two goals at the beginning, and the game was going in our favor, but we conceded silly goals.”
He confirmed: “I’m not attacking my teammates because I was on the bench, but we conceded silly goals as we did before… We just have to try to keep a clean sheet and win matches.”
Salah returned to talk about his situation at Liverpool, saying: “I always support this club, and my children will support it too… I love the club very much, and I will always love it… I called my mother yesterday, and I told them: Come to the Brighton match… This is unacceptable to me, I don’t know why this is happening to me, I don’t understand it… I think if this was somewhere else, every club would protect its player.”
He concluded his speech by saying: “What I see now is as if you are ignoring “Mo” because he has become the team’s problem… But I don’t think I’m the problem, I have given a lot to this club… I don’t have to fight every day for my place, because I deserve it… I’m not bigger than anyone, but I deserve it… That’s how football is.”
The Brighton match will be a “farewell match” for Salah.
