الشرع يحدد معالم المرحلة القادمة بعد "الانتخابات بعد 4 سنوات"

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shareh affirmed in a speech at the Doha Forum today, Saturday, that the Syrian government includes representatives from all sects, stressing that the division of power on a sectarian or ethnic basis is a “big mistake,” and that participation in government must be without any quotas.

He explained that presidential elections will be held after four years in accordance with the constitutional declaration, stressing that building the state must rely on institutions that form the basic pillar for managing the country, and not on individuals. He pointed out that the current elections are in line with the requirements of the transitional phase.

Al-Shareh revealed that Syria had been living in great isolation during the past decades, saying: “We have lived in great isolation for the past 60 years,” but he affirmed the state’s commitment to fulfilling all its pledges in a way that serves the public interest. He added that the world has benefited from Syria’s strategic location in achieving stability, and that the steps taken by the state have always been in the interest of the country.

On the economic front, the Syrian president affirmed that lifting US sanctions would contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens, explaining that some of the problems that Syria has faced recently are “unacceptable” and those responsible will be held accountable. He also pointed out that the administration of US President Donald Trump supports the path of lifting sanctions.

Al-Shareh accused remnants of the former regime of causing the events in the Sahel region, stressing that Syria is a state of law that guarantees the rights of all its citizens.

In another context, he stressed that Israel is working to export crises to other countries, describing it as “now fighting ghosts.” He explained that Syria has been subjected to more than a thousand air raids, considering that Israel is trying to evade the consequences of what it committed in Gaza.

He also renewed Damascus’ position calling for adherence to the 1974 agreement, stressing that Israel’s fears are “unjustified” because Syria is the one being attacked, not the other way around. He revealed that negotiations are underway with Washington’s participation regarding Israel’s withdrawal, noting that Israel is demanding a buffer zone despite being the aggressor.

The Syrian president concluded his speech by pointing out that seeking to impose a buffer zone “puts us in a dangerous place,” in light of the continuing tension on the ground.
