مرقص: لبنان أكثر نشاطاً بعد تعيين "سيمون كرم"

Minister of Information, Paul Murqos, stated in an interview with Al-Hadath channel, that Lebanon has become more active after the appointment of Ambassador “Simon Karam.” He affirmed that this step is an implementation of what was stated in the President of the Republic’s speech on the occasion of Independence Day, which emphasized the need to appoint a representative to the head of the committee.

Murqos also explained that there is a major initiative from Lebanon to strengthen its rights and highlight its distinguished presence in the Mechanism Committee, pointing out that the presence of a civilian at the head of the Lebanese delegation carries great meanings and enhances the presidential initiative. He added that this matter is expected to be discussed at the government meeting tomorrow.

Murqos stressed that the role or powers of the Mechanism cannot be amended, and that what happened is an embodiment of the presidential initiative on the ground, in addition to Lebanese response to the efforts of the international community, especially Washington. He affirmed that “the compass remains Resolution 1701 and the mechanism for cessation of hostilities.”

Murqos revealed that the army will present in the government meeting tomorrow its monthly report on the measures it has taken during the past four weeks and what it has been assigned in the south. He stressed that Lebanon’s demands are clear: “Immediate cessation of Israeli attacks, full liberation of Lebanese territories, return of prisoners, and reconstruction,” stressing that the work of the Mechanism Committee has not changed, and that the appointment of the ambassador shows the highest levels of flexibility within the scope of sovereignty and national rights.

Regarding Lebanon’s representation, Murqos said that “all Lebanese parties are represented in the decisions and choices adopted by the government, especially with regard to the Mechanism file.”
