The launch of the “Galaxy Z Tri-Fold” represents an attempt by Samsung to affirm its presence in a category where Chinese companies are making steady progress, although analysts believe that foldable phones will not achieve widespread adoption at present due to their high prices and the challenges facing their production.
The phone costs about $2440.17, and can be opened to become a display screen of 253.1 millimeters (10 inches) consisting of three panels, which is about 25% larger than Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the “Galaxy Z Fold 7.”
In this context, Alex Lim, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing Office in Korea at Samsung Electronics, stated: “I believe that the foldable device market will continue to grow, and that the Tri-Fold device in particular can act as a catalyst to drive greater growth in key parts of this sector.”
The “Tri-Fold” model, which is manufactured in South Korea, will be launched in the local market on December 12, and will then be launched in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates before the end of this year.
It is expected to begin rolling out in the United States as early as the first quarter of next year.
The device features the largest battery in Samsung’s flagship phone category, and supports ultra-fast charging technology that allows the phone to be charged to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Lim pointed out that the prices of memory chips and other components are rising sharply, which makes determining the price of the device a “difficult decision.”
