مسؤول أمريكي: سياسات نتنياهو قد تحوّل سوريا إلى خصم لإسرائيل

A high-ranking American official confirmed today, Monday, that the policies of Israeli Prime Minister “Benjamin Netanyahu” in Syria, especially the incursions and violations, may push the government in Damascus to become an enemy of Israel. Israeli Channel 12 quoted the official as saying that Washington had asked “Netanyahu” to stop his activities inside Syrian territory, noting that the situation in Syria “is not like in Lebanon,” and that Damascus “does not want problems with Israel.”

This comes as US President “Donald Trump” expressed “complete satisfaction” with the results achieved in Syria “thanks to hard work and determination,” stressing via the “Truth Social” platform that the US administration is doing its best to ensure that the Syrian government continues to implement what is required “to build a real and prosperous state.” He believed that lifting the harsh sanctions helped the Syrians, stressing the importance of Israel maintaining a “strong and real dialogue” with Syria in a way that does not hinder its development.

“Trump” praised the work of Syrian President “Ahmed al-Shara,” considering that he is “working hard to ensure that good things happen” and that the relationship between Syria and Israel can be “long and prosperous,” describing the stage as a “historical opportunity” that is added to what has been achieved in the peace process in the Middle East.

In contrast, the Syrian presidency announced that “al-Shara” received in Damascus the US Special Envoy to Syria “Thomas Brack,” in the presence of Foreign Minister “Asaad al-Shaybani,” where they discussed regional developments and issues of common interest. These meetings come amid Israeli information that spoke two weeks ago about the negotiations between Tel Aviv and Damascus reaching a “dead end,” and then freezing them due to the dispute over withdrawal from southern Syria.

According to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, Israel stipulated the signing of a “peace agreement” with Syria in exchange for withdrawing from the areas where its forces are deployed, while the Syrian President affirmed that any final agreement requires Israel’s withdrawal to the pre-December 8, 2024 borders.

Despite the negotiation track, Israeli incursions into southern Syria continued, the latest of which was the entry of an Israeli force into the Quneitra countryside in the morning and evening today. Since the fall of the previous regime, Israel has established observation points and military equipment in southern Syria, exceeding the buffer zone approved in 1974, including the strategic Mount Hermon point.

Reports indicate that six rounds of US-mediated talks failed to reach a security agreement that would enhance border stability, before the negotiations stopped last September. In contrast, Israel has repeatedly expressed its doubts towards the new Syrian government, demanding that southern Syria be “free of weapons,” which “al-Shara” rejected, stressing that Syria “does not pose a threat to any country in the region or the world.”
