متري: زيارة البابا تشكل فرصة لإبراز فرادة لبنان في ظل "النظام الطائفي" الذي وصل إلى طريق مسدود

Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Mitri stated that Pope Leo XIV follows the approach of Pope Francis, and both give special attention to Lebanon due to its unique nature and distinctive characteristics.

Mitri explained that the existing sectarian political system leads to competition between different sects, ending in power-sharing and quotas, considering that this system has reached a dead end, but there are several ways to overcome it.

He also noted that many countries are affected by the diplomacy pursued by the Holy See, and that it has two main issues at the top of its priorities, namely Lebanon and Palestine.

Mitri added that the Pope enjoys great popularity in the United States, but he does not have the ability to influence decision-makers there.

In conclusion, he affirmed that the capabilities of the Lebanese army are limited, and for this reason the process of handing over weapons is proceeding slowly, in addition to the fact that the “Israeli war” is still ongoing, which hinders the work of the Lebanese army, stressing that the army does not deliberately slow down its work.
