Alibaba Enters Smart Glasses Competition with "Quark" and Unique Feature

Chinese company “Alibaba” has announced its entry into the smart glasses market, with the launch of Quark glasses in the Chinese market. These glasses feature replaceable batteries, allowing for all-day use, a feature that makes them superior to competing companies’ glasses.

The company clarified that the glasses will be launched in two versions: the luxurious S1 version and the G1 version designed for daily use, with a variety of colors and lens types available. The price of the glasses starts at about $550 USD for the S1 version, while the G1 version costs about $270 USD.

Alibaba indicated that the main difference between the two versions lies in the lenses. The S1 version relies on high-resolution micro-OLED screens to display content with a resolution of up to 4K, while the G1 version is characterized by its light weight and suitability for daily use.

Both versions come equipped with microphones that transmit sound through the facial bones, built-in cameras, and a dual replaceable battery that provides up to 24 hours of use. The glasses operate using the company’s own Qwen artificial intelligence model, in addition to a companion application, allowing them to be controlled via voice or touch.

According to the company, the glasses will integrate with its various applications, such as “Alipay,” and audio streaming services, such as “QQ Music.” They will also offer a variety of services including instant translation, price recognition, navigation support and direction display, and automatic meeting recording.

The company expects to launch international versions of the glasses outside of China next year, according to a report published by Bloomberg, but the target markets have not yet been determined.

The launch of Quark glasses is a new attempt by Alibaba to enter the artificial intelligence-powered wearable device market, which is expected to be one of the most prominent innovations coming to the consumer device market.

Meta currently leads the market with its “Ray-Ban” glasses, while other companies such as Apple and OpenAI are seeking to develop similar smart products.
