This came after a speech delivered by Trump on the occasion of Thanksgiving, addressed to members of the US military stationed at military bases, where the journalist inquired about why he claimed that the suspect, who is of Afghan origin, entered the country in 2021 without the necessary scrutiny, despite the Department of Homeland Security’s confirmation that the necessary measures had been taken.
In his response, Trump explained that the entry of these individuals into American territory was part of a large group that arrived at that time, adding, “They came on a plane with thousands of people who shouldn’t have been here.”
The White House had previously stated that the President would remain in Florida until Sunday.
It is worth noting that an Afghan citizen opened fire on November 26th on two members of the National Guard while they were on duty near the White House, resulting in the injury of the two soldiers. The soldier “Sarah Bakstrom,” 20 years old, later died, while her 24-year-old colleague is still undergoing treatment.
Trump described the incident as a “terrorist act,” and indicated that it would be investigated as an assault targeting a member of the federal law enforcement agency, and according to charges related to terrorism.
In the same context, US Attorney General “Pam Bondi” stated that if any of the injured die, the case will be reclassified to allow for charges that could carry the death penalty.
