بين طهران ودمشق: جنبلاط يؤكد أن لبنان ليس مجرد وسيط رسائل

In a post on the “X” platform, the former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, criticized comments made by an Iranian official regarding the situation in Lebanon, considering them a “violation of Lebanon” and turning it into just a “mailbox in negotiations with the Americans.”

Jumblatt clarified that this trend is completely unacceptable, pointing out at the same time “the presence of large numbers of officers of the old Syrian regime inside the country, under the protection of partisan and official entities,” stressing that their presence constitutes “a danger to internal stability.”

In conclusion, Jumblatt praised the religious authority Sayyid Ali al-Sistani for his “concern for Lebanon and its stability.”

These statements from Jumblatt come days after a heated political controversy sparked by Iranian statements about the damage inflicted on “Hezbollah” following the assassination of leader Hitham Tabatabai in the southern suburb, which was then considered “interference in Lebanese affairs.” These positions also coincide with the escalation of tension on the southern border as a result of the recent Israeli raids targeting sites in the south, the suburb, and the Bekaa, which increases fears of expanding the scope of the conflict.

Meanwhile, the debate is raging within the Lebanese arena about the importance of maintaining internal stability and not allowing Lebanon to be turned into an area for exchanging regional messages, amid international and local calls for calm and avoiding sliding into an all-out confrontation.

Jumblatt wrote in his post: “While we condemn the Iranian official’s talk about violating Lebanon and making it a mailbox in dialogue with the Americans, we also condemn the presence of large numbers of officers of the old Syrian regime in the country under the protection of partisan and official entities, and they constitute a danger to internal stability. Finally, greetings to Sayyid al-Sistani for his concern for Lebanon.”
