"We Will Not Surrender Our Weapons," Qmati: The State is Unable to Protect Lebanon

In a statement to Al Jazeera, Mahmoud Qmati, Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of Hezbollah, stated that Israel is continuing its escalation in southern Lebanon, after failing to eliminate the Palestinian resistance. He explained that Israel is “trying to impose its will and hegemony on the region,” stressing that the party “will not submit, no matter what it does.”

Qmati affirmed that Hezbollah “will not disarm and will not deviate from its methodology despite Israeli pressure,” noting that the resistance is “national, Islamic, Lebanese, whose first and last concern is defending the homeland and protecting it.”

He also affirmed the continued relationship with Iran, adding: “We do not deny our relationship with Iran, but it is a supporting force for Arab national security, especially after Netanyahu’s threats with what he calls Greater Israel,” explaining that the party “will not sever its connection with Tehran as long as it offers a helping hand and behaves with respect.”

Qmati criticized the performance of the Lebanese government, considering that it is “implementing external dictates imposed on it,” holding it responsible for “the failure over an entire year to defend the country.” He refused to hand over the party’s weapons to the state, justifying this decision as “stemming from fear for Lebanon and its army in light of the current circumstances.”
