إطلاق مشروعين جديدين من "وزارة الزراعة" و"منظمة الأغذية والزراعة" لدعم الحوكمة البيئية والمؤسسية

Minister of Agriculture, Nizar Hani, signed with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative in Lebanon, Nora Ourabah Haddad, agreements to launch two new projects aimed at advancing the agricultural sector through institutional reform and environmental protection.

The first project, entitled “Strengthening Institutional Governance: A Two-Year Initiative for Institutional Reform and Capacity Building at the Ministry of Agriculture,” aims to support the public sector modernization plan in Lebanon by developing the institutional framework and enhancing the ministry’s capabilities. Through close cooperation with the ministry, the project will work to enhance the ministry’s ability to efficiently manage and implement agricultural policies, programs and services, contributing to sustainable agricultural development, food security, and economic growth in rural areas.

The second project focuses on an important environmental and public health issue. In response to an official request from the ministry, FAO will support the safe disposal of expired chemical pesticide stocks, including pre-packaged materials and newly discovered hazardous materials. Building on the results of a previous FAO project, this project aims to ensure the environmentally sound management and disposal of these stocks, thereby reducing the risks to human health and the environment in Lebanon.

In a statement, FAO noted that “these initiatives reflect the ongoing partnership between Lebanon and the organization to promote sustainable, safe and innovative agricultural practices, while enhancing the ministry’s ability to respond effectively to the changing challenges in this sector.”
