The new messaging system will replace the previous system, retaining all user messages and automatically transferring them to “Chat.”
“X” confirms that the messaging system provides full encryption for messages and files, with the exception of metadata such as the time of sending and the identity of the recipient. The support page indicates that there is no complete protection from certain cyberattacks, such as “man-in-the-middle (MITM)” attacks, where the user may not be able to detect any potential breach in the event of interference by a “malicious insider or the company itself.” However, the company is working to provide tools to verify the identity of devices and the authenticity of messages in the future.
The “X” application now offers additional privacy options, such as disappearing messages that can be set to automatically delete after a specified period, in addition to alerts about screenshots or preventing photography altogether. It also allows users to edit or delete messages, supports voice and video calls, and the company is preparing to add voice messages soon.
It is worth noting that “X” first launched the encrypted messages feature in 2023, before temporarily suspending it last May for improvements, and is now resuming its widespread launch. (aitnews)
