According to leaks published by “android authority”, Google is testing the activation of a new option in the “Google Phone” application that allows users to record their voice calls with extreme ease. Information indicates that this feature will be available for phones in the “Pixel 6” series and later, i.e. all devices released since October 2021, provided that they run the “android 14” operating system or a later version, and that the application is updated to the latest version.
In practice, users will find a dedicated section for recording in the phone application settings, where they can choose the method that suits them: automatically record all incoming and outgoing calls, or limit recording to specific numbers from the contact list, or include incoming calls from unknown numbers. In addition, the feature allows manual recording to be started during the call, with a clear alert to both parties that recording has started, in an attempt to strike a balance between ease of use and the requirements of privacy and local laws.
The importance of this feature is not limited to providing convenience for users, but also extends to organizing the market for call recording applications on the Android system. The existence of an official option from Google means that many external applications that users currently rely on may lose some of their importance, especially since the “Google Phone” application is already available for a large number of Android phones from various brands via the “play store”. This opens the door to the possibility of expanding the scope of the feature in the future to include devices other than “Pixel” phones, to become available to any device that uses the Google application as a default connection option.
