The ministry clarified through its Telegram channel that the operation came after the circulation of an old video dating back to 2012, showing the torture and beating of citizen “Samir Muhammad Hashri” by members of the former regime during a raid on the Al-Ramel Al-Janoubi neighborhood, which later led to his death. After investigations and matching the images in the video, the identities of those involved and their place of residence were identified, and they were arrested.
The ministry stated that the accused confessed to assaulting the mentioned citizen, including beating, torturing, and forcing him to insult God and salute the “fallen criminal” Bashar, in addition to their participation in the arrest and torture of a large number of young people.
The sources added that the accused were referred to the competent judiciary to take the necessary legal measures against them.
The current Syrian government seeks to tighten security control and pursue remnants of the former regime who caused instability.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian rebels were able on December 8, 2024, to enter Damascus, announcing the end of the rule of “Bashar al-Assad (2000/2024),” who succeeded his father “Hafez al-Assad (1970/2000)” in power.
Their two terms witnessed strict security control by the Ba’ath regime, in addition to committing gross violations of human rights.
