It is worth mentioning that Gaddafi has been in custody in Lebanon since 2015, due to the investigation into the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions during an official visit to Libya in 1978. This case is still considered among the most complex and sensitive issues in the relations between the two countries.
Although Gaddafi denied any connection to the incident due to his young age at the time, he remained in pre-trial detention for many years, amid repeated calls from human rights and political groups in Lebanon and Libya to end his detention, especially after the file gradually shifted from a judicial track to one with political and diplomatic dimensions.
Recent developments indicate that the case is nearing its end, in light of official Libyan action at the highest levels to end this file that has been pending for nearly a decade, in preparation for completing the release process within judicial and diplomatic understandings being coordinated between Beirut and Tripoli.
