In a statement after meeting with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in the presence of Dr. Sebastian Gorka, Hurley stated that he was “honored to meet with President Salam, and that the Lebanese people are facing a historic opportunity to chart their own future, but achieving this remains conditional on stopping Iranian funding and ending Hezbollah’s control over the national decision.”
Hurley stressed the U.S. government’s full determination to prevent Iranian funds from reaching “Hezbollah,” emphasizing that economic and political reforms in Lebanon will not achieve the desired success as long as this financial and security influence continues.
Hurley affirmed that Washington will continue to support the Lebanese people and its official institutions in their journey towards reform, explaining that “Lebanon is capable of recovery if it adheres to transparency and dedicates the independence of its political decision away from any external interference.”
