In a statement in English, Bedrosian mentioned that the conversation between Netanyahu and Kushner addressed “the issue of disarming Hamas and stripping the Gaza Strip of any military capabilities,” in addition to discussing ways to prevent the movement from participating in the administration of the Strip in the future.
The spokesperson affirmed that “the Prime Minister stressed that Israel will not take any unilateral steps regarding Gaza, and that coordination with the Trump administration is ongoing in all details.”
This position comes a month after the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement mediated by the US and the region, which ended a devastating two-year war. The first phase of the agreement included a cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.
According to Western diplomatic sources, the second phase, which includes the deployment of an international security force, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of new governance arrangements for the Strip, is still under consideration.
A source familiar with the matter revealed to the Associated Press that Jared Kushner is directly involved in negotiations surrounding an agreement aimed at securing a safe passage for between 150 and 200 Hamas fighters in exchange for handing over their weapons, after the completion of the handover of the remains of Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin.
No official comment has been issued by Hamas regarding this information, but it acknowledged limited clashes in the “Yellow Zone,” an area under Israeli control, where dozens of fighters are believed to have been trapped for weeks.
