وقد سبق أن حذر كيفن هاسيت، مدير المجلس الاقتصادي الوطني في البيت الأبيض، في 5 أكتوبر، من أن استمرار الإغلاق قد يكلف الاقتصاد الأمريكي حوالي 15 مليار دولار أسبوعيًا من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي.

Statistics revealed the delay of 7,954 flights and the cancellation of 2,298 other flights, bringing the total number of affected flights to 10,252.
Later, US authorities announced a 10% reduction in the number of flights due to the ongoing crisis. US President Donald Trump described this decision as “a necessity to ensure 100% security.”
This development comes after the US Congress failed to reach an agreement on the new fiscal year budget that began on October 1, which led to the disruption of the work of many government agencies directly funded by Congress.
Trump blamed the crisis on disagreements with the Democrats, stressing that the US administration is taking advantage of the shutdown period to reduce spending and cancel programs that do not have Republican support.
Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council in the White House, had previously warned on October 5 that the continued shutdown could cost the US economy about $15 billion a week in GDP.
