أزمة مياه حادة في إيران.. وقرار حكومي طارئ

The Iranian authorities have announced plans to ration water consumption in the capital, Tehran, home to more than ten million people, in an attempt to reduce waste amid a severe drought crisis. Energy Minister Abbas Ali Abadi explained in a statement to official television that this rationing “will allow avoiding waste, even if it is annoying,” after reports of nightly water cuts in some areas.

Iran is facing a significant decrease in rainfall, described by officials as “the lowest in nearly a century,” which has led to a decline in water levels in the reservoirs that feed the capital to their lowest levels in decades, according to Tehran Water Company Director Mohsen Ardakani.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had previously warned that Tehran might have to evacuate its residents if it does not rain before the end of the year, saying, “If it does not rain, we will start rationing water between late November and early December, and even with rationing, we may run out of water.”

The decline in rainfall and weak water flow from dams have contributed to exacerbating the crisis, with many neighborhoods experiencing frequent water cuts in recent months to reduce consumption, in addition to the near-daily power outages that the country witnessed during the summer. (Eram News)
