ترامب: إجراءات جديدة للحدّ من الهجرة... وأرقام غير مسبوقة للموقوفين

CBS revealed that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is currently holding approximately 66,000 immigrants, a number that is the highest in the agency’s history.

According to internal data issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the channel explained that this increase is due to the tightening of measures related to combating illegal immigration by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The report indicated that “the number of immigrants detained in ICE facilities rose during the current week to 66,000, recording a new record in light of the Trump administration’s escalation of its strict measures against illegal immigration,” and added that the number of detainees has increased by about 70% since Trump took office last January.

The channel also pointed out that the previous record was also recorded during Trump’s first term, in 2019, when the number of detainees reached 56,000 immigrants.

The report stated, quoting informed officials, that the capacity of detention facilities to absorb has doubled during Trump’s second term, as it increased from 41,500 places to 70,000, noting that the new federal budget bill, known as the “Great Beautiful Law,” will provide additional funding that will allow the agency to increase its capacity to 100,000 places soon.

The report confirmed that about 33,000 detainees, nearly half of the total number, have no criminal record and are being held only for violating U.S. immigration laws.

It is worth noting that President Trump pledged in his inauguration speech on January 20 as President of the United States to “immediately stop the flow of illegal immigrants into American territory” and “begin deporting millions of immigrants,” and also announced the imposition of a “national emergency” along the southern border of the country.
