The Moroccan player suffered a severe injury during his team’s match against Bayern Munich, which ended with the Bavarian team winning 2-1, in the fourth round of the Champions League.
In the last minute of added time in the first half, Hakimi set off with the ball from the right side, but he was subjected to a strong tackle by Bayern Munich player, Luis Diaz, who received a warning.
The Moroccan player cried severely due to the severity of the injury in his left ankle, and the match referee intervened with the video technology “VAR” to decide to expel Luis Diaz.
Achraf Hakimi, who is celebrating his twenty-seventh birthday, was unable to stand on his foot and left the field with the help of his teammates and the medical staff.
Spanish coach Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain coach, was forced to replace Achraf Hakimi and bring in Sini Mayulu in the sixth minute of added time.
The first half ended with Bayern Munich leading with two goals scored by Luis Diaz in the 4th and 32nd minutes, while Joao Neves scored Paris Saint-Germain’s goal in the 72nd minute.
This injury threatens the Moroccan star with a long absence from the stadiums, raising doubts about his participation in the African Cup of Nations scheduled to be held in his country from December 21 to January 18, 2026.
The French newspaper L’Equipe suggested that Hakimi’s absence will extend from 3 to 5 weeks, pending the results of the medical examinations that the player will undergo.
Hakimi, 27, left the Parc des Princes stadium wearing a medical protector on his injured foot and leaning on crutches.
L’Equipe added, “As for Dembele, his old muscle injury has not recurred, but he feels pain in his calf muscle.” He had left the Bayern Munich match injured in the 25th minute, and Kang-in Lee replaced him.
Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich coach, commented on Hakimi’s injury, saying: “I hope that Hakimi’s injury is not serious, and that it is less severe than what happened to Jamal Musiala in the PSG match against Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup in the United States of America.”
Kompany added, “I hope he returns quickly and benefits Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team with his full capabilities.”
Achraf Hakimi is considered one of the most prominent candidates to win the Golden Ball award for the best player in Africa this year, given his achievements with “PSG”, which won five local and continental titles, including the Champions League and the European Super Cup for the first time in the history of the Parisian club.
Hakimi said before facing Bayern Munich in an interview with his club channel PSG TV: “I dream of winning the Golden Ball, it is a strong motivation and motive for me to perform better, but the most important thing remains helping my team win matches and titles.”
Hakimi has been a key player in Paris Saint-Germain since joining the team in the summer of 2021 from Inter Milan for 60 million euros, and he renewed his contract at the end of last season to continue with the team until the summer of 2029.
The Moroccan player has won all local and continental titles with the Parisian club, the last of which was the Champions League and the European Super Cup for the first time in the team’s history.
Wearing the “PSG” shirt, Achraf Hakimi played 189 matches in all competitions, during which he scored 27 goals in addition to 38 assists, and received 28 warnings and three red cards.
Achraf Hakimi worked at Paris Saint-Germain under the leadership of three coaches: Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, then Frenchman Christophe Galtier, and finally Spaniard Luis Enrique, who took over the responsibility since the summer of 2023, and recently renewed his contract until the summer of 2027.
