المخزومي: بلدية بيروت لن تستمر في حالة الفوضى والتحقيق المالي لا يزال جارياً

Following a meeting that brought together Beirut MPs and political forces with the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, “Ahmad El Hajjjar,” MP “Fouad Makhzoumi” stated in a press conference that the Municipality of Beirut will not continue in its current state of chaos. He emphasized the importance of preserving public funds and applying the principles of transparency and accountability in the management of the capital’s affairs.

“Makhzoumi” explained that the MPs presented the Minister with a recent and serious financial and administrative file related to the Municipality of Beirut, based on a formal notification submitted to the Financial Public Prosecutor, Judge “Maher Cheaito”. This notification revealed gross financial and administrative violations that warranted legal action. He also mentioned that a financial investigation had begun with one of the employees based on Decision No. “835/B” dated “October 24, 2025,” after question marks arose about financial and administrative violations that included disbursing funds and compensation without a legal basis, carrying out transactions before obtaining the necessary approvals, in addition to exceeding administrative and financial powers.

“Makhzoumi” affirmed that this move is not directed against a specific person, but rather aims to expose the corrupt and bring them to justice. He called for a comprehensive criminal investigation to include all current and former financial and administrative employees, and to address the Court of Audit, the Central Inspection Board, and the Ministry of Interior to obtain all documents related to this file.

He also stressed the need to facilitate administrative procedures, audit the conditions of tenders, and prevent any corrupt system from disrupting projects. He affirmed that the main goal is to develop the Municipality of Beirut into a modern, transparent digital administration that serves citizens and protects their rights, while emphasizing that chaos and poor management will not be allowed to continue.
