Israeli Channel 12 reported on Sunday evening that Israel is preparing for the possibility of an escalation with Hezbollah in the coming period.

The channel stated that the peak of this tension on the northern front will be “in about a month, with the end of the deadline for disarming Hezbollah south of the Litani River.”

For its part, the Israeli newspaper “Maariv” stated that Hezbollah “is suffering from Israeli army attacks and fears a response,” explaining that “its predicament is clear, as it fears that any response from it will lead to immediate damage in areas such as Beirut.” The newspaper quoted an Israeli source as saying: “There is a possibility of days of fighting against Hezbollah.”

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a new threat to target the Lebanese capital, Beirut, if Hezbollah launches any attack targeting any town in northern Israel.

In an interview with Channel 14, Katz clarified that Israel will deal with any threat, noting that American envoys have informed the Lebanese government of this. He added that the United States is pressuring Beirut to disarm Hezbollah, indicating that Israel is giving these efforts a chance before any field action.

Katz’s statements come against the background of the increasing military escalation in Lebanon in recent days, amid ongoing talk of an Israeli intention to intensify its military operations.

The Israeli army has also intensified its air strikes on Hezbollah targets in the past few days.

In the same context, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Hezbollah is trying to “rearm itself,” stressing during the weekly cabinet meeting that Israel “expects the Lebanese government to abide by its commitments, i.e., disarming Hezbollah,” adding: “It is clear that we will exercise our right to self-defense under the terms of the ceasefire.”

It is worth noting that the United States has increased its pressure on the Lebanese authorities to disarm the party, a plan opposed by Hezbollah and its allies.
