
During her meeting with the Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, affirmed the strength of the relations between Cairo and Beirut, noting the directives of the Egyptian political leadership towards developing this partnership to become a comprehensive strategy for the fields of development, investment, trade, and exchange of economic expertise.
Al-Mashat explained that the convening of the committee reflects the two countries’ keenness to support joint development and support Lebanon’s efforts to achieve economic stability. She added that the ministry will work to exchange experiences in the fields of planning, economic policies, and international cooperation with the Lebanese side.
The minister also expressed the readiness of Egyptian companies to contribute to the reconstruction of Lebanon, by taking advantage of their experiences in implementing major national projects in Egypt, such as industrial and agricultural zones and new and smart cities.
For his part, the Lebanese Minister, Amin Salam, expressed his country’s aspiration to benefit from the Egyptian development experience and expand cooperation between the public and private sectors, and extended an invitation to his Egyptian counterpart to participate in the “Beirut First Investment Conference” scheduled to be held in November, with the aim of attracting new investments to the Lebanese economy.
The two sides agreed to coordinate efforts to implement the results of the committee and follow up on cooperation mechanisms between the concerned authorities in the two countries, in a way that contributes to strengthening the bilateral economic partnership.
Data from the Egyptian Ministry of Planning indicates that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Lebanon amounted to about one billion dollars in 2024, compared to 774 million dollars in 2023, representing an increase of 29.3%, reflecting a noticeable growth in trade relations.
It is worth mentioning that the ninth session of the joint committee witnessed the signing of four agreements in the fields of exchanging tax expertise, communications and information technology, investment promotion, and importing Egyptian building materials.
