The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants announced in an official statement its deep concern regarding the deteriorating situation in Mali, due to the escalating security and political tensions, in addition to the acute economic crisis and the severe shortage of energy and fuel that the country is suffering from.

The ministry stated that it is in constant contact with the concerned authorities to follow up on the conditions of Lebanese citizens residing in Mali, who number approximately 3,000 people, through the Chargé d’Affairs ad interim at the Lebanese Embassy in Liberia, which is considered a non-resident embassy in Mali.

The statement also stated that the ministry has assigned the Chargé d’Affairs to closely monitor the situation and strengthen coordination with the embassies of countries with relevant interests and influence in Mali, in order to ensure the safety of Lebanese citizens and protect their interests.

The statement also mentioned that the Director of Political and Consular Affairs in the Ministry held a meeting with the Honorary Consul of Lebanon in Mali, during which ways to address the current crisis were reviewed, as well as the mechanisms that must be followed to protect the Lebanese community and ensure continuous communication with it.

In conclusion, the Ministry affirmed that it has requested the Honorary Consulate in Mali to continue its efforts to maintain effective communication with members of the Lebanese community, provide them with the necessary information and guidance, and provide them with possible support in these difficult circumstances.
