This evening, the town of Soufar witnessed a horrific incident represented by a double murder that shook the town.
Armed men entered a room located behind a tire repair shop on the public road and opened fire on a young man and a girl from the town of Arab El Faour in the Bekaa, killing them instantly in front of their young child.
Initial information indicates that the victims married about three years ago in an unconventional manner, a “kidnapping,” without the consent of the wife’s family at the time, which sparked ongoing family disputes despite the passage of time and their having a child who lives with them.
Local sources reported that a number of family relatives arrived at the scene and fired a barrage of bullets inside the back room of the tire shop where the husband works, killing them. Then they fled to an unknown destination, amid reports that the child witnessed the crime.
Immediately, the security forces and the army imposed a security cordon around the area, and criminal evidence began collecting information, while investigations continue to track down the suspects and reveal the circumstances of the crime and its full motives.
This crime adds to a series of incidents related to family and tribal disputes that have turned into armed clashes in several areas. This renews demands for the necessity of imposing state authority and preventing the proliferation of weapons that cause personal disputes to turn into bloody tragedies that threaten community security.
