His Excellency President General Joseph Aoun received Ms. Morgan Ortagus, Deputy Envoy of the American Envoy to the Middle East, at Baabda Palace this afternoon. She was accompanied by the US Chargé d’Affaires in Lebanon, Mr. Keith Hanigan, and the Political Advisor at the Embassy, Mr. Matthew Totilo.
During the meeting, a detailed discussion took place regarding the current situation in the country, in addition to reviewing the measures and procedures necessary to restore stability and calm to the southern region.
In a related context, President Aoun affirmed “the need to activate the work of the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (the Mechanism), especially with regard to stopping the ongoing Israeli violations and attacks on Lebanon, and implementing Resolution 1701 in the south to enable the Lebanese army to complete its deployment to the southern international borders.”
President Aoun also emphasized “the need to enable southern citizens to return to their homes and restore the damaged ones, especially with the approach of winter.”
