In the context of efforts to implement laws aimed at preserving wildlife and mitigating environmental violations, the Dinnieh detachment of the Internal Security Forces continues to carry out its field campaigns with the aim of controlling violators of the decision to ban land hunting in Lebanon, especially during prohibited periods, in compliance with the decisions of the Ministry of Environment and the provisions of Law No. 580/2004, which regulates the hunting process and prevents its practice without licenses or outside the specified seasons.
It was learned that members of the Dinnieh detachment carried out intensive patrols in the Daria area – Dinnieh district, which resulted in the arrest of five people and the confiscation of three vehicles they were using in illegal hunting operations. The seized items were confiscated and the detainees were transferred to the competent authorities to complete investigations and take the necessary legal measures against them.
This security move comes within the framework of efforts aimed at reducing indiscriminate hunting, which in recent years has led to a noticeable decrease in the numbers of some types of birds and wild animals, in addition to harming the ecosystem, especially in the northern regions, which are among the most vulnerable to this type of violation.
It is worth mentioning that these measures come in response to the repeated demands made by environmental associations for years, which emphasize the need to activate field monitoring and prevent illegal hunting due to the direct threat it poses to the environmental balance and biodiversity in Lebanon.
This step is considered an important measure that reflects a serious trend towards applying the law after years of leniency in controlling hunting violations, which heralds a new phase of official and popular awareness of the importance of preserving wildlife and protecting the natural environment. If this trend continues, it will constitute a positive turning point in the path of preserving the environmental diversity that has long suffered from neglect and depletion.
