The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced in a statement today, Tuesday, the success of the Anti-Narcotics Branch in Homs Governorate in carrying out a qualitative operation.
During the operation, the branch was able to seize a large quantity of Captagon narcotic pills, estimated at about 11 million pills.
This quantity was professionally hidden inside a car coming from Lebanese territory, in an area located in the southern countryside of Homs.
The ministry stated that the seized shipment, in addition to the car that was used in the smuggling operation, have been confiscated.
It also affirmed that investigations are underway to uncover all those involved in this case, and to determine their possible connections to organized smuggling networks.
The ministry stressed that the competent security agencies are continuing their relentless efforts to pursue drug dealers and promoters, and to reduce criminal activities associated with this illegal trade, due to its severe negative effects on society.
The statement pointed out that this successful operation comes after foiling two attempts to smuggle drugs during the past week through the “Jdeidet Yabous” border crossing.
Where the security services were able to seize the following:
:200,000 Captagon pills were hidden inside a car coming from Lebanon.
:40 pieces of hashish in a separate smuggling attempt through the same crossing.
The Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Ports indicated that close cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department comes within the framework of a comprehensive national plan aimed at combating all forms of smuggling and preventing the spread of narcotic substances inside the country.
