The Parliament was unable to hold its general session today, which is a continuation of the previous session, due to the lack of a quorum. Accordingly, Speaker “Nabih Berri” adjourned the session to a later date to be determined later.

63 deputies arrived at Nejmeh Square and entered the meeting hall, while deputies from the “Strong Republic” blocs, “Kataeb,” “Change Alliance,” and “National Moderation,” in addition to a number of independent deputies, boycotted the session.

In a statement after the session was adjourned, Deputy Speaker of Parliament “Elias Bou Saab” explained: “If there was an intention to hold the session today, it would have happened. The beginning of resolving the crisis is not holding the session today, and this decision reinforces that everyone will return to search for common ground.”

“Elias Bou Saab” added: “What happened today is related to what may happen in the government tomorrow, and the result in the Council of Ministers will be based on what happened here. We have started looking for solutions instead of producing additional crises, because the Lebanese people want to know where we are going: to more crises or towards understandings.”

“Elias Bou Saab” reiterated his position on the election law, saying: “The issue of the election law, which is the focus of the dispute, needs legislation. My position is clear: I am in favor of electing all 128 deputies from the people in Lebanon and abroad. To reach this result, we must dialogue and legislate.”

“Elias Bou Saab” pointed out that “the committee concerned with the law is still in place, but a political team has suspended its participation, whether in the committee or in the general assembly,” stressing that “it is better not to have legislation in the absence of a wide segment of the Lebanese.”

In conclusion of his statement, “Elias Bou Saab” said: “We hope that there will be a step from the Council of Ministers tomorrow that will alleviate the existing tension. We must find a way to implement de-escalation and open dialogue between everyone.”
