Israeli sources claimed that Israel is “approaching the decision-making stage regarding the next steps on the northern front,” in a hint at a possible new military escalation against Hezbollah on the Lebanese border. This comes against the backdrop of what Tel Aviv describes as “repeated violations and attempts by the party to strengthen its armament, in contrast to the declining effectiveness of the Lebanese army in the south.”
A news report stated that these developments come in the wake of tacit approval from the United States for Israel to continue, and even enhance, its military operations against what it considers “violations” by Hezbollah.
Reportedly, the latest developments in American-Israeli coordination represent a turning point in American policy, as Washington now views Hezbollah’s moves as “a direct threat to the stability of the region,” and has clearly hinted that it will not place restrictions on Israel if it decides to respond on a larger scale in Lebanon.
The report mentioned that the U.S. Special Envoy, “Morgan Ortagus,” made a field visit to the Lebanese border, where she received a security briefing from Israeli Minister of Security “Israel Katz” and the commander of the Northern Region, Major General “Rafi Milo.” The visit included a tour of border military sites and a meeting with field officials in the Israeli army.
In a remarkable move, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, “Yehiel Leiter,” and the American Ambassador to Israel, “Mike Huckabee,” also participated in the meeting, in a sign of the close coordination between the two governments regarding the future of military operations in the north.
