In a step to enhance economic cooperation and confront increasing protectionist challenges, China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have signed an agreement aimed at expanding the scope of free trade between them.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang affirmed the strength of the bonds that unite his country with the region’s nations.
During the ASEAN-China summit held after the signing ceremony, Li Qiang stated: “Unity is strength,” emphasizing that strengthening joint cooperation would help overcome the uncertainty surrounding the global economy.
The ASEAN-China Free Trade Area agreement was signed at the conclusion of the annual ASEAN Summit and its accompanying meetings, in the presence of both Li Qiang and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whose country holds the rotating presidency of ASEAN this year.
