U.S. President Donald Trump, during his reception of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, affirmed that the United States views Japan as a strategic ally “at the highest level,” expressing his deep appreciation for the Japanese people.

For her part, Takaichi expressed her gratitude for “Washington’s commitment to global peace and stability,” praising the “Middle East agreement” which she described as a historic achievement. She also affirmed her desire to start a “new golden age” for relations between the two countries, in light of China’s growing influence in the region.

The White House indicated that the two countries are planning to expand economic cooperation through the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing markets for rare earth elements and minerals. Practical steps are scheduled to be taken over the next six months to support domestic production and provide supplies to allied countries.

Despite the friendly nature of the visit, the two sides face complex economic challenges. The Trump administration is demanding that Tokyo increase its defense spending and expand its investments in the American market by $550 billion, as part of an agreement aimed at easing tariffs imposed by Washington.

Japanese media reported that the meeting between Trump and Takaichi took place in an informal atmosphere, with a gold-colored “Ford F150” truck seen in front of the Akasaka State Guest House, in a symbolic reference to Trump’s desire to promote American car exports to Japan.

The U.S. President is expected to deliver a speech aboard the aircraft carrier “George Washington” during his visit, before heading to South Korea to participate in the ASEAN summit.
