Media sources reported that Israel has requested the United States to continue carrying out military operations inside Lebanese territory in the coming period.
The same sources claimed that Hezbollah has managed to bring large quantities of short-range missiles from Syria into Lebanon in recent months.
In a related context, Orna Mizrahi, analyst and former official in the Israeli National Security Council, presented three possible explanations for the escalation of Israeli operations in Lebanon recently.
In a statement to the “Yedioth Ahronoth” website, Mizrahi explained: “Some believe that these operations will ultimately lead to a reaction from Hezbollah, which I cannot be certain of under the current circumstances, while emphasizing the need not to completely rule out this possibility.”
She added that the first possibility is that “the increase in operations may be related to the opportunities available, as Hezbollah’s attempts to strengthen its positions create additional opportunities to carry out attacks, which explains the increase in the frequency of these operations.”
As for the second possibility, according to Mizrahi, it is that Israel is seeking through this escalation to put pressure on Lebanon to engage in negotiations with less stringent conditions, noting that “the conditions often come from Hezbollah, but the Lebanese government adopts them.”
As for the third possibility, it is that “the situation may deteriorate into a wider conflict, whether initiated by Hezbollah or by Israel, if the party decides to respond to the escalation of operations.”
Mizrahi concluded: by saying that “there is a possibility of deterioration or entering into negotiations, but it is necessary to continue these operations because they keep Hezbollah in a weak position, although this situation cannot continue indefinitely, and a final solution to the existing crisis must be found.”
