The Prime Minister: Nawaf Salam received the Head of the Beirut Bar Association: Fadi Al Masry. After the meeting, he stated: “I was honored to visit the Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, and meet with him to discuss several matters, including those related to the general national issue and others related to the affairs of the Bar Association.”
Al Masry announced: “Regarding the general national issue, we commended the role of the government and the vision of the Prime Minister and the approach he has outlined in coordination with the President of the Republic, which has become an approach that must always remain and continue, and it is essential in order to improve the Lebanese state and restore its credibility in the international community, especially in the eyes of our Lebanese children. The issue of the state, its value, its position, and its prestige is a fundamental issue related to general constitutional principles and respect for and implementation of laws. We support the Prime Minister and informed him that we insist on completing this path in order for Lebanon to be a free and independent sovereign state, its borders protected and the security of its children preserved, and this is the sole responsibility of the Lebanese state.”
He added: “We must preserve Lebanon and its children with our own strength and prevent any aggression against it, and the state must extend its authority and prestige over all its territory with its own forces. As for some syndicate affairs, we drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the attacks that lawyers are subjected to, which we do not accept as they affect the essence of the profession. I presented to him two incidents that recently occurred to lawyers, and he promised me that he would take the necessary measures to follow up on the matter, hold any negligent party accountable, arrest the aggressors, ensure justice, and prevent the recurrence of these matters.”
Al Masry continued: “Regarding financial confidence in Lebanon, we in the Bar Association have a role to play to the fullest extent, and we bear a great deal of effort and sacrifice and spend time to help restore financial confidence in the country. This requires collective action that is not limited to the government alone. Today, we submitted to the Prime Minister a report that he had requested from us to clarify the procedures that must be taken to avoid classifying Lebanon on the blacklist and to work to restore its classification to its natural position. This report was prepared by a special committee in the syndicate concerned with this matter.”
The Head of the Bar Association, Fadi Al Masry, concluded his statement by affirming that “The Bar Association always stands by the state to continue the approach of transparency, restore confidence, and return investment to Lebanon, which is a matter of utmost importance and requires the cooperation of everyone.”
