Lebanon Today

Amid this intense diplomatic activity, with the arrival of the American envoy “Morgan Ortagus” in Beirut, and the potential visit of the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate, Major General “Hassan Mahmoud Rashad” – which comes after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister “Benjamin Netanyahu” – signs are increasing of an imminent war, in a manner similar to the diplomatic movement that preceded the September 2024 war.

Retired Brigadier General “Shamel Roukoz” stated to that “Ortagus’s visit to Lebanon constitutes a warning message against heading towards the unknown, i.e., towards a major war, as all indicators are pointing in this direction.”

He added: “There should be a Lebanese counter-diplomatic campaign, directed towards the active and influential countries, with the aim of achieving a balance in the implementation of Resolution 1701, and this is a Lebanese demand and necessity before anything else.”

“Roukoz” pointed out that “what we are witnessing today of visits and movements falls within the preparation for a major war, and the scene almost matches what preceded the September 2024 war, even if the tools and methods are different this time.”

He continued: “The envoys’ talk focuses on the implementation of Resolution 1701, but according to their own vision — i.e., disarmament and others — without paying attention to the suffering of the peoples whose villages were destroyed and left to their fate.”

Regarding the possibility of a large-scale confrontation, “Roukoz” said: “The war is cooking on a hot fire. The diplomatic and military indicators indicate full preparation for a military operation, which may not be a comprehensive invasion, but rather devastating strikes on industrial, commercial, and other institutions.”

Regarding the infrastructure, he explained that “there are international guarantees not to target it, but with the Israeli enemy, there is no guarantee for anything.”

“Roukoz” concluded his speech by emphasizing that “the coming period will witness more of the targeting similar to what happened in Al-Musaylih and Sinai, as Israel does not want reconstruction or the return of residents to their homes on the borders.”
