A statement was issued by MP Bilal Al-Houshimi, in which he expressed his full support for the Lebanese University and its distinction, stressing that it “has embodied since its establishment the broadest national academic edifice in Lebanon and the main pillar of official higher education,” and pointed out that the university embraces more than 70,000 students supervised by thousands of professors and researchers who dedicate their efforts to serving science and the nation.
Al-Houshimi explained that the presidency of the Lebanese University dealt seriously and transparently with the academic issues that were recently raised in some faculties, indicating that the president of the university: Bassam Badran, issued Decree No. 2031 dated October 9, 2025, and formed an official investigation committee composed of professors with competence and integrity, in order to verify the academic files and submit a detailed report to the presidency in accordance with the legal procedures followed.
Al-Houshimi added that “this step expresses a conscious administration that believes that the strength of institutions lies in their ability to correct mistakes within the law,” and praised the ability of the university presidency to balance the application of the principles of accountability and wisdom in leadership, in a way that preserves the reputation of the university and enhances confidence in it as a prestigious national institution.
Al-Houshimi also noted the qualitative progress made by the Lebanese University at the level of academic and research performance, as it ranked first locally in the disciplines of engineering and pharmacy, and entered the list of the top one hundred universities globally in the fields of petroleum engineering and pharmacy according to the QS ranking for 2025, and this reflects the distinguished level it has reached thanks to its administration, teaching staff, and students.
Al-Houshimi concluded his statement by stressing that the Lebanese University will remain the leading intellectual and scientific institution in the country despite all the challenges, calling for its protection and care because it represents the basis of educational and social justice in Lebanon, and praising Professor Bassam Badran’s commitment to the principle of transparency and accountability, and the efforts of the academic staff who raise Lebanon’s name high everywhere.
