The Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut witnessed a strong return of the “National Bloc Party” to university life, after years of absence. This return was represented by the Bloc’s list achieving a notable victory in the Faculty of Political Science elections, winning six seats and the presidency of the faculty council, compared to three seats for the “Lebanese Forces.”
This victory is considered a clear indication of the renewed political activity of the “National Bloc” among youth and students, in a period that has witnessed a decline in partisan activity within Lebanese universities in recent years due to the accumulated economic and political crises.
This victory represents a practical step towards revitalizing student work within universities, especially in institutions that have suffered from a political vacuum for years as a result of the changes that have affected youth partisan life in Lebanon.
Student sources confirm that the return of the “National Bloc” through its youth wing reflects a shift in students’ orientations towards civil and reform options, and expresses the desire of the new generation to participate in national work away from traditional affiliations.
Sources explain that the “Bloc’s” discourse among students focuses on the principles of full sovereignty of the state, citizenship, integrity, and transparency, which has contributed to strengthening its presence within the university and attracting a segment of students who are looking for a new political alternative based on participation and change.
Analysts believe that this victory represents a new beginning for the “National Bloc” to rebuild its organization among young people, in preparation for restoring its role in the general political scene.
