The Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, emphasizes that “what is known to the official authorities is that we are facing a difficult period, and it is likely that pressures will escalate and take different methods and forms in the near future.” He pointed out that “Israel, by violating the ceasefire agreement, has made clear its intention to destroy this agreement and undermine Resolution 1701, with the aim of subjugating Lebanon and forcing it to take measures that affect its sovereignty and threaten its unity and territory.”

In a statement to “Al-Jumhuriya” newspaper, Berri affirmed that “Lebanon adheres to the approved mechanism in the Mechanism Committee, which includes all parties, and is fully committed to Resolution 1701,” stressing: “We do not have any other alternatives.”

The Speaker added that “the priority at this stage is to maintain internal stability and unite the Lebanese around what serves the interests of their country,” noting that “the unity of the Lebanese is the strongest weapon.” He said: “If the Lebanese unite, I guarantee you a decisive victory over Israel.”

President Berri’s statement comes in light of the escalating tension on the southern border as a result of repeated Israeli violations of Resolution 1701, amid international warnings of a deterioration in the security situation. It is worth noting that the “Mechanism” committee, which stems from the United Nations understandings between the Lebanese army and “UNIFIL,” is concerned with following up on the implementation of the resolution and monitoring violations.
