Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri received at the Second Presidency in Ain El-Tineh the head of the Quintet Committee (the “Mechanism”) emanating from the ceasefire agreement, US General Joseph Clearfield, accompanied by the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy Keith Hanigan and the accompanying military delegation, in the presence of the Speaker’s Media Advisor Ali Hamdan. The meeting discussed developments in the field situation in the south and the latest developments in the committee’s work.

President Berri presented to General Clearfield Israel’s continued daily attacks and air raids targeting civilians and economic, industrial and agricultural infrastructure in the south and in various Lebanese regions, as well as its continued occupation of vast Lebanese areas along the border in clear violation of the agreement and disruption of the implementation of Resolution 1701.

For his part, General Clearfield presented an overview of the committee’s agenda for the next phase, its working mechanisms and movements, expressing his aspiration to achieve tangible progress towards consolidating the ceasefire and Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories.

President Berri also received former Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and the meeting reviewed the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the latest political and field developments.

He also received the President of the Lebanese American University (“LAU”), Dr. Michel Mawad, in the presence of the head of the Executive Office and the legal department official at the university, lawyer Nour Hajar, the university’s advisor for governmental affairs, Dr. Christian Oussi, and the media official at the university, Professor Saad El Zein. Dr. Mawad informed President Berri that the Lebanese American University campus in New York had obtained official licensing that allows it to issue American university degrees from the campus, considering this a major and unprecedented achievement for Lebanon. The delegation also handed the Speaker of Parliament an invitation to attend the dinner that the university will hold on the occasion of the centenary of the Lebanese American University Medical Center (Rizk Hospital).

In a separate context, President Berri called for a public session at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, to follow up on the study of draft and proposed laws that were on the agenda of the September 29, 2025 session.
