Reuters reported, citing a responsible source in the US government on Wednesday, that the US armed forces carried out a precise air strike targeting a boat believed to be carrying a shipment of narcotics in the Pacific Ocean area.

The source, who requested anonymity, added that the operation took place late Tuesday evening in the Pacific waters off the coast of South America. He pointed out that this strike is considered the first declared US military move in that geographical area since the start of military operations aimed at combating the narcotics trade.

This action follows the implementation of at least seven similar operations in the Caribbean region, which has led to increased tension in relations between the United States and both Venezuela and Colombia.

Over the past few weeks, the US Navy has destroyed at least four speedboats in international waters in the Caribbean Sea, and these boats were carrying people accused of transporting narcotics from Venezuela, without providing conclusive evidence to support these accusations.

The administration of US President Donald Trump states that the United States is waging a “war against terrorist drug groups” and considers these strikes to fall within the framework of legitimate measures aimed at protecting national security and combating smuggling operations.

It is noteworthy that videos previously circulated through American media showed complete destruction of the targeted ships during the execution of the strikes, and no information or reports have been received about the existence of survivors of these operations.
